MCO SoloII Event # 2 Results

Jeff and I had our second race last Sunday, and what a blast it was!  Our first obstacle was overcoming the need to rent a U-haul truck for every race.  Thanks to Metric Homes who donated a truck for our use, we have solved that problem for the season!  They’re also looking into an auto transporter for us, so that should save us the U-haul rental as well.

[SinglePic not found]The track last weekend was very challenging – There was some changing radius corners, a half-figure-8, a few nice straights, and some tight, technical slaloms and corners.  Jeff and I both had a blast, but because of timing issues we were only able to get in 4 runs.  We were also fighting off rain for most of the afternoon, and unfortunately the rain won just before my last lap and I discovered that high-pressure tires with a feather light rear-end RWD car is a LOT of fun on a wet track :).  We also had a bit more competition today as my little brother decided to race his 2004 Subaru Impreza too!

Here’s a summary of our times for the day.  As you can see, the last runs for both of us were not so hot.  Jeff had a shifting issue – the synchros for 3rd gear are messed up, so you really need to ram it in otherwise it will pop out, as Jeff found out.  As I said before, the rain got to me for my last run and I decided to go for style points!

Jeff’s times were good enough to place him 13th/20, and I finished 7th/20.  My brother sneaked in right behind me with an 8th place finish (that was close!).

Run 1 77.157 75.087
Run 2 76.453 75.206
Run 3 76.594 73.760
Run 4 82.319 82.650 w

On the plus side, neither of us hit any cones this weekend, and Jeff had a chance to try out his new in-car camera, and we got some awesome footage.  A big thanks goes out to MCO’s manotick Mike for taking great action shots.  Next race, we’ll increase the volume so you can really hear the car scream.

BMW Build – Hood Pins!

Posted by Shawn On June - 9 - 2009

jeff-190.jpg So during our tear down and our first Auto-X event, we noticed that the hood release was causing us trouble.  The catch would keep getting jammed inside the frame, and wouldn’t lock the hood down.  To solve this problem during our first race, Jeff and I used almost a 1/4 can of WD-40 to finally get it out!

Clearly this wasn’t ideal.  Oh well, I guess we’ll just HAVE to get hood pins!  Jeff came over last wednesday and we changed the oil and filter and installed our hood pins.  I have to say it was weird putting holes in the hood, but everything worked with no problems.

After that, we were ready for the track!
